Trace James Ivory

Wednesday March 6th I had my 38 week appointment. During that appointment the baby was still measuring 35 weeks so I got really worried and want my baby here soon. I asked the doctor to sweep my membranes. When he checked me I was still only 3 cm dilated and 75-80% effaced. For the rest of the day I had contractions, but they weren't regular and they weren't very strong. Around 4 I started to time contractions and they were pretty regular and about 4 minutes apart. Around 5 after making dinner and feeding the kids my contractions started to get a little uncomfortable, but I didn't think anything of it. At 9:30, after putting Kambri to bed, the contractions started to hurt. I got in the shower to help with the pain. After the shower I headed to bed to see if I could get the contractions to stop. Around 11:30 I was starting to have to focus through the contractions, so we headed to the hospital. Once we got there I was checked and was 4 cm dilated and 45 minutes later I was dilated to a 5. They got the IV in and shortly after I was getting set up for an epidural. He had me lay on my side to get the epidural which I thought was odd. He started to put the epidural in and I started to have a contraction. I was trying to focus through it and he was asking me if the pressure was to the left so I shook my head yes because I couldn't talk. He then responds with "I don't respond to head nods". I was less than thrilled he was that rude to a woman in labor. After he got the epidural in he said my right side would be more numb because I was laying on my right side, so I kept waiting and waiting and nothing ever happened. I only felt it on my left side. A few minutes after my epidural the doctor came in to break my water to see if they could get things going since I was still at a 5. The moment my water broke I was in extreme pain. My right side was still not numb so I pushed for more of my epidural. The pain was so bad I was crawling up the bed and shaking the rails. I would almost throw up after every contraction. After 20 minutes that didn't work, so I was about to ask for the anesthetist to come back in, but I was complete and ready to push. At 2:25 I started pushing and they found out the baby's head was facing my left hip and they had to turn him. The pain of the doctor putting his hands in and turning the baby was almost as bad as the contractions. There was no relief from the pain and I was starting to get exhausted. The doctor wasn't as good as our previous doctor and did nothing to help me push right or try to keep me going, so they pulled out the forceps and got our little guy out. It was such a relief the instant Trace was out. Trace James was born at 2:48 weighing 7lb 6oz 20 1/2 inches long. I was not thrilled with the way this labor went, but I'm glad our little boy is here. Trace is such a sweet baby and  Kambri is in love with him. She loves to help burp him and calm him when he is crying.
